I would like to take this opportunity to put my objections to the sign and the issuance of the permit for it in writing. The subject is sign permit#00-100869-SG issued on April 10,2000. Your interpretation of the meaning of the passage, "One sign for each street frontage providing direct vehicle access,"is in my opinion completely incorrect. I believe that the language means the sign must be on the street with direct vehicle access, and is not merely referring to the number of signs possible. The Marine Hill sign is located on Dash Point Road. It is not in sight of the Recreation Facility. It is outside a long chain link fence which provides no access to the property. The Recreation Facility according to the sign is located on 6 th Ave. South which does not intersect Dash Point Road. The facility is over a circuitous mile by road from the sign. It is over one half mile to the entrance of Marine Hills. One must travel on several different streets to get to the facility from the sign. The entrance itself seems to be on a private barred road. I do not think this circumstance meets the requirement of direct vehicle access from Dash Point Road. It therefore is my belief that the permit for the sign should not have been issued and that the sign is illegal. Is there any other business sign in Federal Way that is situated at the distance from a business and is just a sign beside the street that offers no view or egress to the facility? Although I was told on the phone that the city cannot control the orientation of a sign on the owners property. In reading 22-1596 Number 3,this does not seem to be the case. It is therefore a mystery to me why this sign was allowed to be erected on the entrance/exit to a curve where several bad accidents have taken place. This is especially the case where the sign was put up parallel to the road where the head must be turned to see it. I have spent money trying to mitigate damage that the sign has done to my property.
