Good evening, I am Ade Ariwoola. I serve on the Board of Washington Finance
Officers Association (WFOA) and Government Finance Officers Association of the
United States and Canada (GFOA). I am honored to be here this evening on behalf of
the Government Finance Officers Association to present the Certificate of Achievement
for Excellence in Financial Reporting to my city, the City of Federal Way.
The Certificate of Achievement Program has been in operation since 1946. The purpose
of the program is to encourage and assist governments to prepare financial reports of the
highest quality for the benefits of its citizens and other parties with a vital interest in a
Government's Finances.
This Certificate of Achievement has gained widespread recognition as the premier
indicator of excellence in government accounting and financial reporting. This award
represents a significant accomplishment by a government entity and its management.
The City of Federal Way 's CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the
high standards of the program, including the demonstration of a "spirit of full
disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial story to its users.
Personally, I have been involved in both the preparation and review of the CAFR for
this award. I can assure you, the work required to prepare one is significant and the
review is rigorous.
This is not the first time that the City of Federal Way has received this honor. Rather,
today's presentation marks the 24th consecutive year that the City has received this
Certificate of Achievement. The City has received this award since its inception. Such a
record reflects the professionalism and commitment of numerous individuals as well as
many hours of hard work. This award also reflects a high degree of dedication on the
part of the finance department, its leadership, the support of the Mayor and City Council
which demand such excellence.
The City of Federal Way has gone above and beyond the basic financial reporting
requirements to produce a quality report of their financial position. The citizens and
users that the City of Federal Way serves should be proud of the commitment and
dedication of the city staff and council who contributed to this report.
The Government Finance Officers Association hopes that this award to the City of
Federal Way will serve as an example and encourage others to strive for the same high
standards in their own financial reports. -
Therefore, it is my privilege, on behalf of the Government Finance Officers
Association, to present to the City of Federal Way this Certificate of Achievement for
Excellence in Financial Reporting.
