Background
• The Growth Management Act (GMA) requires the
City to complete a major update to the
Comprehensive Plan by June 30, 2015
• The FWRC requires the city to accept
applications for amendments to the Federal Way
Comprehensive Plan text and map on an annual
basis
• For this cycle, we have combined the annual
update with the major update

Market Demand for Senior Housing
• King County elder population (age 60 +) will be
almost 25% of the population by 2035
• Since 1995, the number of residents 85 and older has
almost doubled
• By 2035, the number of residents 85 and older wit..,
almost quadruple
• ADS Advisory Council data indicate that the older
population living in south and east King County are
growing most rapidly

Citizen Comment
• Rob Reuber, the agent on the Youngspring
application submitted two comment letters (5/14
& 6/1), which stated:
• Pac Hwy will be widened with sidewalks
• There is also a planned extension of S 352nd St
between 16th and Pac Hwy
• There are a number of transit stops in the are
• Brooklake Community Center and the West
Hylebos Wetlands State Park are close by
• Character of the CE zone is changing
