Dear Greg.
This letter is in reference to the uplift connection between the new 4x6 beam and the top plates.
Additionally, this letter discusses the existing 4x 10 beam.
Per our conversation yesterday, 1 understand that the new 4x6 blocking sits on existing 20 double top
plates and therefore LTP4's were substituted for the A35's originally specified. This is acceptable
provided a minimum of (1) LTP4 is placed at each block.
Additionally. I understand the inspector is questioning whether the existing 4x10 beam is a change in site
conditions from what was originally shown on the plans. My understanding is that this beam is —13'-6"
long but does not clear span 13.5' (max span is 6'-0") and that the top is flush with the top of the top plates.
The tributary roof loads on this beam are the same as the existing condition on this beam (per our
conversations, you have stated the existing roof framing was comprised of a collar tie system). Therefore,
calculations for the adequacy of the beam are not required per chapter 34 of the IBC. However, the new
uplift load path must be provided. As such, the trusses shall be connected to the 4x6 beam as specified by
the truss manufacturer and LTP4's @ 4'-0" o.c. shall connect the new 4x6 beam to the existing 4x 10 beam.
