Dear Ms.Redford:
The Department of Community Development Services is in receipt of your request to temporarily utilize a 5th wheel
recreational vehicle(RV)as a dwelling unit during the reconstruction of your home.As detailed in your request,the
primary residence suffered extensive fire damage on April 16,2010,and requires substantial repair.
Your request to utilize a 5th wheel RV as a temporary dwelling during the reconstruction of your home is hereby
approved pursuant to authority granted by Federal Way Revised Code(FWRC) 19.13.290(1).
LIMITATIONS OF APPROVAL
The above-referenced code citation includes the following guidelines that are applicable to your circumstances:
• The RV may be occupied for a maximum of 12 months from the date the primary dwelling was damaged.
One, 12-month extension may be granted by the director based on demonstration of continuing hardship
and documented good faith efforts to complete construction.
• Occupancy of RV shall end within 30 days of issuance of a certificate of occupancy for reconstruction of
the primary dwelling unit at the property.
• The RV may be located within the front yard setback(within 20 feet of 6th Avenue SW right-of-way)but
may not obstruct sight distance at driveways and intersections. The recreational vehicle may not be in side
or rear yard setbacks(within 5 feet of north,south,and west property lines).
• Generators shall not be utilized.
