MEETING MINUTES
Commissioner Olivia called the meeting to order at 5:04pm.
Present: Henry Ojeaburu, Milad Heydari, Gillian Soo, Brittany Rogers, Gaurav Gowda, Olivia Chong, Justin Filfred,
Eden Beyene, Korina Mamaril, Ainsley Yoshizumi, Von Born
Absent: Reece Binder, Hannah Kim
Staff: David Schmidt – Senior Services Coordinator, David Clemons – Customer Service Coordinator
PUBLIC COMMENT
Lawrence Garrett of Advancing Leadership Youth (ALY), called in and informed the commission of a partnering
opportunity. ALY is currently holding several drives to help with youth homelessness in the FW area.
COMMISSION BUSINESS
Ice Breaker
The commissioners played an icebreaker called “Ninja”.
January Minutes
Commissioner Ainsley motioned to approve the January minutes, seconded by Commissioner Von. All
commissioners vote in favor to approve.
Daughter’s Night Out
Commissioners Gillian and Reece attended the event. Commissioner Gillian reported that she and Reece helped
prepare and serve food. She stated she enjoyed the event and that it was very enjoyable.
Color Run
Commissioner Milad informed the commission about a color run held by “We” on May 26, 2018. Proceeds from
the run will benefit schools in Kenya. He would like the commissioners to raise awareness and participation by
handing out flyers for the event.
Racing into Reading
Commissioner Henry met with a representative from the KCLS. The annual book exchange event will be held on
April 25, 2018 and will have an automotive theme. He asked the commissioners to bring ideas for games and
activities to the next meeting.
Walk‐a‐thon/Federal Way walk program
Commissioner Brittany presented her idea of holding a walk‐a‐thon. Schmidt recommended she and the
commission take some of her ideas and partner with the walk Federal Way program that will be starting in June.
The program is being led by the recreation department.
Fundraising
Several commissioners contacted local businesses. Of those contacted, Chipotle, Panda Express, and Menchies
seem to be the best choices for partnering with to raise money.
