Subject: Ridge board size for rafter framing
The builder has used a 2x ridge board the same depth as the rafters (2x6) and
therefore has not satisfied the Code requirement of Section R802.3 requiring that
the ridge board have a depth not less than the vertical dimension of the cut
rafter abutting it.
This can be achieved on this project by the retrofit installation of a sawn stock of
2x2 inserted into that current gap space beneath the existing ridge board. The
2x2 should be attached to the base of the ridge board using 8d box nails at 24"
O.C.
