To Building Officials;
Enclosed are design revisions for the Basic Plan submitted previously. The design revisions involve
construction materials only, with no building alternation as:
1. Employ 1/2" plywood or OSB roof sheathing in lieu of lx spaced sheathing per UBC Table 23 -I -J-1
and eliminate gypsum wallboard ceiling diaphragm, see framing details on sheet S 1 enclosed.
2. Use drywall screw as a alternative fastener at gypsum wallboard shear walls per ICBO Evaluation
Report 1874, see shear wall schedule on sheet S 1.
3. At all spread footings, change reinforced concrete to plain concrete per UBC 1923.10.3 exception.
The revisions included the alternatives for each model and are engineered based on the following code
requirements and design criteria as:
1. 1994 Uniform Building Codes, Design Standards and ICBO Evaluation Reports;
2. Wall Bracing Test Report 156 and Research Report 151 by American Plywood Association;
3. Basic Wind Speed assigned at 80 MPH, Exposure B;
4. Seismic Zone Factor of 3 and Site Soil Type S2;
5. Roof Snow Loads assigned at 25 PSF;
6. Allowable Foundation Pressure assumed at 2000 PSF with field verification.
These revisions are submitted for the use of King County Building Department's review and approval of
Basic Plans only, and not for review and approval of building permit on any specific site. Century
Engineers Corporation will submit a certification letter addressing the conformance of each specific
plan's design criteria to the design requirements of a specific site or multiple sites, when building permit
applications are submitted or processed.

To Building Officials;
In accordance with the field change request from Quadrant Corporation, we have reviewed and
revised the goof diaphragm construction based on the use of horizontal wood structural panels in
lieu of the gypsum wallboard ceiling diaphragm.
According to UBC Table 23-1-J-1, wood structural panels that including CDX plywood and
Oriented Strand Board work as horizontal diaphragms in the lateral loads -resisting system. By
employing this type of roof sheathing, the following blocking and nailing can be eliminated
from the original design as:
1. Detail 1/S 1 Exterior Shear Wall, Interior blocking and it's nail -B and C.
2. Detail 2/SI-Gypsum Ceiling Diaphragm, the whole detail is eliminated.
3. Detail 3/S I -Exterior Shear Wall, Interior blocking and it's nail -B and C.
4. Detail 5/S 1 -Lower Roof Section, Interior blocking and it's nail -A and B.
As revisions for the Basic Plans submitted previously, This alternation is submitted for the use of
King County Building Services Division's review and approval of Basic Plans only, and not for
review approval of building permit on any specific site.
