To Building Officials;
In accordance with the field change request from Quadrant Corporation, we have reviewed and
revised the goof diaphragm construction based on the use of horizontal wood structural panels in
lieu of the gypsum wallboard ceiling diaphragm.
According to UBC Table 23 -I -J-1, wood structural panels that including CDX plywood and
Oriented Strand Board work as horizontal diaphragms in the lateral loads -resisting system. By
employing this type of roof sheathing, the following blocking and nailing can be eliminated
from the original design as -
1. Detail 1/S1 -Exterior Shear Wall, Interior blocking and it's mail -B and C.
2. Detail 2/S 1 -Gypsum Ceiling Diaphragm, the whole detail is eliminated.
3. Detail 3/S1 -Exterior Shear Wall, Interior blocking and it's nail -B and C.
4. Detail 5/S 1 -Lower Roof Section, Interior blocking and it's nail -A and B.
As revisions for the Basic Plans submitted previously, This alternation is submitted for the use of
Ding County Building Services Division's review and approval of Basic Plans only, and not for
review approval of building permit on any specific site.
Century Engineers Corporation will submit a certification letter addressing the conformance of each
specific plan's design criteria to the design, requirements of a specific site or multiple sites, when building
permit applications are submitted or processed.
Century Engineers Corporation and its design professiozxals are mot liable for any use without a
certification setter from us, nor for any misinterpretation of the site conditions that are related to the
structural forces and design, criteria as specified for the house plans subinitted.

In accordance with the building permit requirements, we have prepared the lateral loads -resisting
analyses and beam calculations based on the following code requirements assigned and design
conditions assumed as:
1. 1994 Uniform Building Codes and Standards, and ICBO Evaluation Reports;
2. Wall Bracing Test Report 156 and Research Report 151 by American Plywood Association;
3. Basic Wind Speed assigned at 80 MPH, Exposure B;
4. Seismic Zone Factor of 3 and Site Soil Type assigned at S2;
5. Roof Snow Loads assigned at 25 PSF;
6. Allowable Foundation Pressure assumed at 2000 PSF with field verification by others.
The analyses and calculations are limited for the use of the building sites named hereon. If
this house plan to be built at different sites or the site subsoil conditions encountered during
construction are different from the assumptions assigned, Century Engineers should be informed
at once so that the design criteria and analyses/designs can be revised for the building code
compliance.
The analysis/design set contains the following information as enclosed:
Lateral Loads -Resisting Calculations of 7 pages ;
Beam calculations of 3 pages;
Shear wall/Holdown designs implemented on the house plans sheet 4 through 6.
