Youth Commission MINS 10-25-2018 CITY OF FEDERAL WAY YOUTH COMMISSION Thursday October 25, 2018 Maple Room 5:00 p.m. Federal Way Community Center MEETING MINUTES Clemons called the meeting to order at 5:19pm. Present: Amy Ojeaburu, Korina Mamaril, Ainsley Yoshizumi, Emily Odom, Eden Beyene Absent: Nic Pagliocco, Nede Obviebo (excused), Justin Filfred Staff: David Clemons – Customer Service Coordinator, Kimberly Ledyard – Community Recreation Coordinator PUBLIC COMMENT None. COMMISSION BUSINESS Ice Breaker Each commissioner told 2 truths and 1 lie. October 11th Minutes Commissioner Ainsley motioned to approve last meeting’s minutes. Seconded by Commissioner Emily. All Commissioner unanimously voted in approval. Minutes Responsibility Commissioner Ainsley agreed to take minutes for the October 26th meeting. Chair/Vice Chair Commissioner Ainsley nominated herself for Vice Chair. Commissioner Korina nominated herself for Chair. Both commissioners gave short speeches as to why they would like to hold the positions. Commissioner Emily motioned to approve the nominations and Commissioner Amy seconded it. All Commissioner voted unanimously in favor. Event/Fundraiser Planning City-wide sports day idea was discussed. Addition of food vendors was proposed. Vice Chair Ainsley suggested the event be pushed to May. Clemons discussed using the money raised to help fund the Max Fisher Memorial Scholarship. Other fundraising options for the scholarship were also discussed. Each commissioner was charged with contacting a local business to discuss any partnership/fundraising opportunity. Emily- Chopped Leaf Korina- Mod Pizza Amy- Menchies Eden- Panda Express Clemons- Chick-Fil-A Youth Commission T-shirts Youth Commission, October 25, 2018 Page 2 Commissioners were asked to propose ideas to be included on the current year’s commission T-shirt design. Commissioner Eden proposed the quote “The youth of today are leaders for tomorrow”. Teen Night Commissioners will help advertise for the next teen night scheduled for November 16th. Commissioners talked about extending the age from 17 to 18 as long as students bring valid school ID and cannot re-enter the community center after leaving.
