You have Sixteen foot tall racking with storage to approximately twenty feet above the finished floor. Your storage commodity consist of metal parts within cardboard boxes on wooden pallets. Per NFPA 13 5.6.3.1 this falls into the Class I "non combustible products stored on wooden pallates as well as in single layer card board boxes". The existing fire sprinkler system at the roof consists of a gridded wet system with Large orifice sprinklers of high temperature range. The system is hydraulically designed to a design density of .495/2000. This information was obtained from the hydraulic placards located on the fire system riser. Per NFPA 13 chapter 16, table 16.2.1.3.2 a class I commodity stored to twenty feet, non -encapsulated, eight foot ailse, without inracks see figure 16.2.1.3.2(a) curve E or G. Per figure 16.2.1.3.2(a) Curve E single or double row racks with eight foot aisle and high temperature ceiling sprinklers. Requires a density of .29/2000 or .26/3000. Thus the existing fire sprinkler design is well above the current NFPA requirement for this type and arrangement of storage. No further sprinkler modifications are required at this time.
