Mr. Christensen,
Pacific Northwest Engineering Inc. (PNE) as requested has reviewed correction notice
provided by the City of Federal Way for the deck dated 1/23/15 for permit number 14-
106080. We have responded to the comments in an itemized format as noted in the
correction notice:
1. We have reviewed the modified deck size to be 6' x 20' and preformed a
structural analysis on the framed members.
a. The deck framing shall be 2x8 joists at 16" o.c. spanning from the home to
a beam line approximately 66"from the home.
b. The beam line consists of 4x8 HF#2 or better with supports set 24" from
the end and 8' apart, (3) total supports.
c. Supports shall be 4x4 posts with 18" diameter x 6" deep pad footings with
(1) #4 each way for reinforcing.
d. Lateral restraint DTBZ anchors shall be provided per the original
submitted detailing although they are not required structurally.
2. Bottom of stair stringers connection are adequate to be notched and bear on a
treated 2x4 sill anchored to the foundation. (2) %2" diameter anchor bolts shall be
supplied as a minimum.
3. Nails shall be added to fill holes in hangers
4. A35 shall be attached the side of each stringer and to the single joist.
5. Treatment of posts is required where exposed or in contact with surrounding soils.
Cedar posts are acceptable as a natural resistance to decay_
