Washington 98102 (425) 747-5618 FAX (425) 747-8561 JN 17427 August 4, 2017 The undersigned Principal of Geotech Consultants visited the subject site on August 1, 2017 to observe site conditions. We understand that, based on GIS mapping, there is an Erosion Hazard Area beginning approximately 30 feet south of the subject site. The purpose of our visit was to observe the site and adjacent site conditions with regards this Area. This letter provides our professional opinion from a geotechnical engineering standpoint regarding the relationship of the site and the proposed residence with regards to the Erosion Hazard Area. The subject property is rectangular, being long in the north -south directly. Most of the site is forested. Overall, the site and adjacent sites tend to decline to the south/southeast. Most of the site has a gentle to very gentle inclination, although its center portion is has a gentle to moderate inclination. The southern portion of the subject site, which is the area where the proposed residence will be located, is only inclined about 7 to 10 percent. There is an existing garage on the adjacent property just south of the adjoining property line, so that area is inclined less than 5 percent. Although we were not able to directly observe the area south of this garage, based on the GIS mapping, that area slopes more moderately, in the range of 20 to 25 percent; it appears that this inclination is the reason that area is considered an Erosion Hazard Area based on the GIS mapping. A test pit had been excavated on the southern portion of the subject site down approximately 4 feet prior to our arrival, apparently for septic design reasons. We were able to observe that, below about 12 inches of topsoil and very organic loam, the soil in this southern portion (where the proposed residence will be located) consisted of fine sand that was only slightly silty. As compared to most soils in the Puget Sound area, which are siltier, it is our opinion that the erosion potential of the onsite soil where the residence will be location is low. We point out that only sites where there is no vegetation or impervious surface cover have a potential for having erosion issues. So, development sites are generally only erosion issues during construction. That is why erosion control measures are important and are very typical on construction sites in the Puget Sound area. 0 GEOTECH CONSULTANTS, INC. . F Z ..a V Mehl Homes August 4, 2017 CONCLUSIONS • JN 17361 Page 2 As noted above, the area on the southern side of the site where the proposed residence is located, as well as the first, approximate 30 feet of the adjacent southern property, has an inclination of only about 5 to 10 percent. In addition, also as noted above, the soils have a low potential for erosion due to their low silt content. Lastly, the area between the area of the proposed residence and the mapped Erosion Hazard Area to the south if the site is mostly covered with an existing garage. For these reasons, it is our professional opinion from a geotechnical engineering standpoint that the mapped Erosion Hazard Area will be unaffected by the development of the proposed residence. As with any construction site in the Puget Sound area, it is prudent to implement erosion control measures during construction as standard protocol. Measures such as a gravel construction entrance and silt fencing on the downslope side of the site should be maintained on the site during construction at a minimum.
