CONDITIONS:
1. Retain & protect identified significant trees per FWCC, sec. 22-1565 -1569. Bright protective fencing is
required at the dripline of retained trees.
2. The driveway shall be paved per FWCC, sec. 22-1453. Driveway shall be paved from the existing roadway
pavement edge, or curb, to the garage or carport.
3. Per FWCC, sec. 22-1133(4), eaves, chimneys, awnings & similar elements of a structure that customarily extend

RE: Shelly House Remodel use of Lshaped(plan vitw)built up members at blocked edges of plywood
pastels in place of 3 "(nominal) mernebers at blocked edges of plywood sheathing members.
The problem with the wider studs is that they are in many cases not the same depth as the 2x6 members eat
they take the place Of in plywood shear wails. This often creates a bump out in the drywall interior cover.
They also have a greater tendency to twist and warp over time as it is not possible to be sure they will dry
as evenly as a thinner member in the Kilns at the lumber mill, In other words them is often residual
moisture in them when they arc installed, For this reason we ]cave looking at other methods to eliminate
this problem.
The alternative of using 2 pieces instead of one is not a manner of economy, as it takes longer to install and
the material cost is nearly as much. It provides the blocking dut the Uniform building code is trying to
achieves with it nominal 3 " members. Therefore the same purpose is achieved via a slightly different
approach. Also the use of 3 inch wide nominal framing members is mandated by the code only on very
heavily loaded sheat walls where the spacing of the nails is 2 inches on the permimeter of the shear panels.
See footnote 3 on Table 23.1-K-1 on page 2-902 of Chapter 23 of the Uniform Building Code.

Maximum height of fill= 8 feet. Assume 35 lbs per cubic foot of equivalent fluid pressure
8x 35 = 280 pound per square foot at bottom of wall.
@2.667 feet from the bottom the pressure will be 5.33 x 35= 187 pounds per square foot
@ 5.33 feet from the bottom the pressure will be 2.67 x 35= 93 pounds per square foot
Assume the ends are fixed against rotation and the span is 23 feet. Use 10 inch thick concrete wall
Negative moments at ends will be 1/12 w12 and positive moment at center will be 1/24w12
Negative moment = 1/12 x 280 x 232 = 1234 foot pounds
Positive moment = 1/24x 280 x 232 = 617 foot pounds
If ends are not fixed there is no negative moment at supports and the positive moment becomes 1/8 w12
