Owner or agent: Date: Department of Community Development 3325 8 th Avenue South Federal Way, WA 98003-6325 July 26, 2013 To whom it may concern: Georgiy and Anna Russu 3082122 nd Avenue S Federal Way, WA 98003RECEIVED AUG 0 2 2013 CITY OF FEDERAL WAY CDS We received a notification of a plan to open a family day care business at the residence next to our property. While we are happy to hear that someone will be providing special care for others, we do have a few concerns that we hope will be addressed. Our concerns are with the fences and gates, with the shared driveway, with the hours of operation, and with the pets (on both properties). The people you plan to care for (we assume child care) should not be able to exit through the gates except under supervision. The front gate and fence are only a few feet tall and are short enough to climb over. Further, the front gate latch is easily opened and often not working. The gate next to the garage latches but is also easily opened. During the years we have lived here, we have seen the many children open the front and back gates and go to the shared driveway, or to the street, where they play and run and do the other things children do. We are concerned that this activity, along with the added traffic for pick-ups and drop-offs, would be hazardous for those being cared for. The notice says that care would be provided "during part of a 24-hour day." Our neighborhood is very quiet and we like that. We know that children need to run and play and make noise. We are concerned, however, that noise that would occur early in the morning or late in the evening. We enjoy our quiet evenings outdoors and would prefer not to have that disturbed. Also, we own and care a great deal for our Great Dane. He is loving and gentle and playful and VERY large. We keep him indoors or in a fenced area in our yard, a fence in common with the residence next door. We are concerned that those being cared for might taunt him or attempt to play with him through the fence or play with him in the shared driveway, might be hurt. He is a gentle giant and small people, children, rarely know how to play with such large dogs. We spend a great deal of time every Saturday training our Great Dane to be fun and polite and gentle. Maybe the children We are concerned that rambunctious or taunting children might distract him during this training and lead to an aggressive toward small people. We do not object to the opening of a day care facility next door. We do hope that our concerns can be addressed so that we can rest easy at night knowing that those being cared for are protected.
