Federal Way, WA Subject: DeVry Institute of Technology Egress Lighting Circuitry Gentlemen: TO 12536610391 P.02 --.-. ---r r - r V L The purpose of this letter is to explain the design intent of the Egress lighting at the DeVry Institute of Technology, Federal Way, DVA. SISI Consulting Engineers are the Engineers of Record for the electrical design at that facility. The lighting system design for this educational building includes the use of programmable circuit breaker panelboards. It is intended that selected circuits feeding classrooms and other support areas will utilize the features provided by programmable breakers. Consequently, the egress lights to most areas were connected to separate circuits, This allows the various classroom circuits to be programmed off during normally non -occupied times while . the egress circuit will be connected to unswitched circuit breakers (i.e. -- breakers not programmed for timed on-off actions, plus — these breakers should be provided with physical locking devices). Point (4) of this article permits the use of bonding type locknuts and bushings but states that jumpers must be used around concentric knockouts. This requirement is in place since a standard concentric knockout has tabs which could break and in doing so open the ground path. Siemens Type VBII switches in 200A max. ratings employ tangential knockouts where a portion of the lock ring is always in direct contact with the enclosure. A jumper is not required with this form of knockout and a standard bonding type bushing meets this requirement with no jumper. Sincerely, /4 -- Dennis P.
