Required setbacks, height limitations, and other sign code information can be obtained from the Land Use Division of Community Development Services (CDS). Building code information may be obtained from the Building Division of CDS. Sign permits expire one year from the date of issuance. ALL information and plans must be provided before the application can be accepted. I. SIGN PERMIT APPLICATION A. Form: Complete the Sign Permit Application form. Any space left blank will delay permit processing. B. Fee: A plan check fee is due upon submittal of a complete permit application. Contact the Development Specialists (253-661-4115), for the exact fee amount. II. REQUIRED PLANS You must submit two sets of the following: A. Site Plan: An overall site plan (24" x 36" paper, minimum scale 1"= 20') showing the proposed structure in plan view (see site plan example, Figure 1). See the Sign Permit Application Checklist (other side of this sheet) for detailed plan requirements. B. Building Elevations Plans: (Applies only to building mounted signs.) An elevation drawing for each building face to which a sign will be affixed (see elevation plan example, Figure 2A and 2B). Free Standing Sign Construction Plans: (Applies only to free standing signs.) An elevation drawing for each freestanding sign to be constructed). Internal illumination using 800 milliamp or larger ballasts if the lamps are spaced closer than 12 inches on center G. Internal illumination using 425 milliamp or larger ballasts if the lamps are spaced closer than six inches on center IV. INSPECTION/REGISTRATION (Inspection request number is 253-661-4140) A. Signs with foundations require a foundation inspection. Rough electrical will be inspected at the time of foundation inspection, if appropriate. B. A final sign and/or electrical inspection is required and must be scheduled to register all signs. C. After a sign has passed its final inspection, a registration sticker will be affixed to the sign. Signs without a registration sticker have not received final approval. Please contact our office if you have a sign that has been inspected but not registered. I have completed a preliminary sign code review of the application. Several issues need to be addressed before my review can continue. 1. On the submitted site plan, it is unclear where the tenant space for First Avenue Music is located. Please revise the site plan to show the location of the tenant space. Also indicate what floor the tenant space is on. 2. The City requires scaled elevation drawings for sign permit review. Please submit a scaled drawing of the west elevation. This drawing should show the location of the proposed sign and the extent of the tenant space on which the sign is located. If there are any existing signs on the west elevation, please indicate their size and location. 3. If the proposed sign is not located on First Avenue Music's tenant space, then it must be reviewed as a sign area transfer. Per Federal Way City Code (FWCC) section 22-1601(b)(4) (enclosed), a business may move an allotted sign from one building face to another. If this application is for a sign area transfer, then you must provide written consent from the tenant on whose space the sign is to be located. This is required because the location of your sign may limit that tenant's ability to have their own signage. The combination of all signs on that tenant space may not exceed 7% of the exposed building face of that tenant space.
