We reached a major milestone this past year with the opening of the new Peforming Arts and Event Center. This is a facility for us to take pride in as it has quickly become the focal
point of a Federal Way’s cultural scene.

Federal Way ‘Traffic Graffics’
The commission is very proud of the annual progress of the Mini-Mural Artwork Project, headed by Commissioner Gary Gillespie. This project involves having artists design colorful murals
that are used to decorate the traffic light boxes at intersections throughout the city.
The process entails printing the digital files onto sheets of vinyl wrap. The artwork is then ready to be placed on the utility boxes.

I’ve lived here for 50 years now, and I can tell you that Federal Way is all about families. Its vital that we support our younger citizens in the cultural life of the community. Here’s

We have a youth oriented competition that is taking place right now. Each year the Municipal Court and the Arts Commission sponsor a K-12 art competition with the theme ‘What Liberty
Means To Me’. Entries for this competition are due May 1st. There are cash prizes and the winners will have their work displayed in the Municipal Court.

These past few months we have also been working with our sister city of Hachnohe Japan on an arts project to celebrate the 25th year of our city’s relationship. The Hachinohe Art museum
will bring a photo gallery display about every day life in Hachinohe to be shown in the PAEC this December. This will include a workshop for High School Photography students put on
by curators from their art musuem. Our students worrk work will be sent back to Japan for display in the Hachinohe Art Museium.
