June 4, 2019 - Council unanimously voted to direct staff to begin the process to place an advisory vote on the November 5, 2019 election
July 2, 2019 – Staff presents two resolutions:
Establishes a ballot title and explanatory statement for an advisory vote as to whether the Council should enact an ordinance allowing marijuana-related businesses to locate within
the City and directs the City Clerk to transmit the resolution to King County Elections
Directs staff to advertise for volunteers for the pro and con committees to create summary statements for the ballot

Allowing Marijuana-Related Businesses
in the City of Federal Way
Should the Federal Way City Council enact an ordinance allowing marijuana-related businesses within the City of Federal Way?

NO
The City of Federal Way currently prohibits marijuana-related businesses from locating or operating within the City of Federal Way.
This ballot proposition is a non-binding advisory vote that allows residents to inform the Federal Way City Council whether they are for or against marijuana-related businesses locating
within the City of Federal Way. A “YES” vote means the voter is in favor of marijuana-related businesses locating within the City of Federal Way. A “NO” vote means the voter is against
marijuana-related businesses locating within the City of Federal Way.
EXPLANATORY STATEMENT
Effect of Resolution
Upon the approval of the proposed Resolution, the City will submit the Ballot Title and Explanatory Statement to King County Elections
Submission of the Ballot Title triggers prohibition within 42.17A.555 that states no public facilities may be used for the promotion of or opposition to any ballot proposition.
Public comment regarding the marijuana store issue will not be permitted until after the general election on November 5th.
