Basis for the Project
What is the Project?
Framing City South is a community outreach project that includes two online open house surveys to receive public feedback on what the future should look like around a future light rail
station in south Federal Way. The project is a partnership between Sound Transit and the City of Federal Way.
Policy Justification
Comprehensive Plan – Land Use Chapter implementation strategies calls for considering subarea plans in the South 348th Street and 356th Street areas. This project is an opportunity to
consider what future planning work is needed.
Why Now?
The focus area is where major projects by WSDOT and Sound Transit’s Tacoma Dome Link Extension are planned over the next 10 years.

The area is based on one half-mile from the possible station locations and west of I-5.
Goal of the Project
The objective of the project for the City is a report that identifies the following:
A community vision for the future of the area around the future light rail station.
Identify guiding principles for future planning efforts in south Federal Way.
Identify preliminary strategies for achieving the community vision.

Upcoming EventOnline Open House #1
Website and survey goes “live” on November 20th.
The survey will be open to the public until at least December 11th.
City Staff and the consulting firm EnviroIssues will be looking to spread the word in the community during this time to get as many people to take the survey as possible.
There will be a Planning Commission workshop with a public reception before the meeting on December 4th for the community to have an opportunity to find out more information in person.
