The purpose of our visit was to explore the subsurface conditions beneath the general building pad areas on Lots 1, 2 and 3 and evaluate the soil conditions for providing foundation support for the residences to be constructed on these lots. Presently, the subject lots were vacant and generally bare of vegetation. The subject plat contains a total of 22 lots. A house is being constructed on Lot 22 just across the street from Lets 2 and 3. Fills have been placed over most areas within the three subject lots. Subsurface conditions were explored by excavating one test pit on Lots 1 and 3. Excavation for the building pad on Lot 2 was underway at the time of our site visit and subsurface conditions on this lot were confirmed by observing this excavation. Firm, tall-like soils were notcd in the excavated areas. Based on our test pits and the excavation observed, it appears that variable amounts of fill have been placed within these lots, perhaps during the construction of the plat roadway and utilities and during mass grading. 'The thickness of the fills range from about four feet on Lot 3 and up to six feet on Lot 1. The fill thickness within the excavated area on Lot 2 ranged from about three to six feet. Foundations supported on these soils may undergo a significant amount of total and differential settlements if not extended below the unsuitable materials. All footings should bear on native, Grm,gravelly and silty sands,observed below the existing fills, or on structural fill. We estimate that excavations to remove these fills will range approximately four to six feet below existing site grades. Foundations supported on the till soils can be designed for an allowable bearing capacity of 3000 pounds per square foot.
