At the request of your contractor, Mr. George Storm,we have reviewed the plans for the subject project residence addition
of approximately 6 feet by 28 feet. We were requested to review the approximately 3'-7" corner wall. The general review
analysis by a jurisdiction is to require special calculations for any corner wall which is less than 4'-0". The 4'-0" rule is
good standard practice. However in this case it is our opinion that the 3'-7" wall is acceptable due to the length of wall on
the other side of the window (18'-5") and due to the relatively minor addition to the structure perpendicular to the shear
wall under consideration (6-0").
As standard practice we would recommend that either the upper top plate be made continuous from the corner of the
addition to the intersecting bathroom wall, or the same be accomplished with the use of Simpson ST 6224 tie straps.
