Background
On February 13, 2017, Brandon Gonzalez was struck by
a vehicle as he crossed the street in the crosswalk. He
states that the crosswalk sign had 20 seconds left on its
countdown when he started crossing, but an
emergency vehicle triggered a light change leaving him
stranded in the road. A third party then struck him.
Evidence seems to support his statements. The
Opticom system may have been set up to allow this
scenario to happen.

Litigation counsel has negotiated a settlement in the
matter for $10,000.

Mayor’s Recommendation
Approve the agreed upon settlement in the matter of
Gonzalez vs. City of Federal Way.
