Commission 2021-2022 Human Services General
Fund (HSGF) grant recommendations in the amount

▪Funding is for the period 2021 to 2022
▪Estimated funding available annually is $536,000
▪Application period opened March 4, 2020
▪Applications were due May 5, 2020 following a
one-month extension due to COVID-19
▪Federal Way received 77 applications for funding
•75 application were complete and submitted on
time
•2 applications were incomplete

Recommendations
▪Three Strategy Areas for funding:
1)Address basic needs including housing, health, and
hunger (Minimum of 40%)
2)Promote individual and community safety through
prevention, intervention, and crisis services
3)Promote services that foster stability and self-
sufficiency for families and individuals
▪Integrating principle of equity in application and
evaluation

Recommendations
▪The Commission made two sets of recommendations.
•One set included an increase in allocations that is not in
the City’s proposed 2021-2022 budget.
•Recommendations are forwarded to the City Council by
a unanimous vote of the Commission.

•7 CDBG (separate presentation; majority of funding in
strategy 3)
