G. Utility Tax Rebate Program: Presented by Finance Director, Ade Ariwoola.
Finance Director Ariwoola stated we are looking at exploring different options regarding the utility tax
rebate program (UTRP). Some cities in the surrounding area work directly with their utility district. If
someone can prove they are a low-income senior citizen then the utility district doesn't collect the
utility tax. Another route would be to set a flat rebate amount versus having to go through each bill.
There has been a decrease in participation in the program because some senior citizens are having
trouble holding onto their bills for the entire year to submit them. The Committee discussed different
possibilities on how to get more senior citizens involved and would like to view a few other city's
requirements to see how they compare to ours.
This item was for discussion purposes only, no action was taken.
