Todd Beamer High School • Website: https://www.fwps.org/tbhs • Address: 35999 16th Ave S • Walking Distance from Proposed Site: Approximately 2.3 miles (Via ROW Network) Figure 6 (School District Map; Orange Star = School Location Red Square = Project Site) Figure 7 (Google Maps Pedestrian Route From Project Site to School) 7/8 The proposed development site is not located within the the School District identified “Suggested Safe Walking Route” (per https://www.fwps.org/Page/6613) Since the high school is more than 2 miles away, it is belieived the School District provides bus services for students. As such, no pedestrian route description is provided herein. EXISTING BUS STOP LOCATIONS At the time of this report, School District mapping for bus stops was not available on the Federal Way School District or individual school websites. Nor were any School District representatives in the Finance Department or Transportation Department available to discuss the project and bus stop locations and/or services. PRELIMINARY SUMMARY FINDINGS Determination of how student residents will get to and from school: Student transportation to and from Enterprise Elementary School and Todd Beamer High School is likely to be provided by School District Bus Services. This thought is primarily based on student ages and walking distance for the grade school students, and the walking distance of more than two (2) miles for high school students. As such, it is assumed Federal Way School District is currently providing bus services within this neighborhood for both grade school and high school students. Given the existing number of homes and neighborhood development patterns, it is believed the School District likely has established bus stops in this neighborhood for student transportation to and from Enterprise Elementary School and Todd Beamer High School. Illahee Middle School is approximately .6 miles from the project site. In consideration of student ages and proximity, this location may be a likely candidate for students to walk to and from school. Moreover, it should be noted that this site appears to be located on an existing School District “Suggested Safe Walking Route”. Determination of the need for additional bus stop locations: Since School District Staff were not available for comment during the writing of this report, the adequacy and location of existing bus stops was not able to be determined. Safety and Improvements: Consistent with the District’s “Suggested Safe Walking Route”, Figure 5 illustrates a walking route from the project site to Illahee Middle School. Project safety and improvements that support student resident movement to Illahee Middle School and area bus stops include the development of 5-foot pathways along the perimeter of the subdivision fronting along SW 366the St and 6th Avenue SW.
