1) Window signs are all signs located inside and affixed to a window
and intended to be viewed from the exterior of a structure.
Window signs are used to advertise products, goods or services for
sale on -site, business identification, hours of operation,
address, and emergency information. The area of window signs
shall not exceed 25% of the window area.
2) This permit is issued based on the information provided by the
applicant. Since property lines cannot be verified without a
survey, the property owner, his heirs or assigns shall assume all
liability for any relocation or any other associated costs should
the sign be located in public right of way.
3) Pursuant to Federal Way City Code Section 22-1603(F), no sign may
contain or utilize the following:
(1) Any exposed incandescent lamp with a wattage in excess of 25
watts; (2) Any exposed incandescent lamp with an internal or
external reflector; (3) Any continuous or sequential flashing
device or operation; (4) Except for electronic changeable message
signs, any incandescent lamp inside an internally lighted sign;
(5) External light sources directed towards or shining on
vehicular or pedestrian traffic or on a street; (6) Internally
lighted signs using 800-milliamp or larger ballasts if the lamps
are spaced closer than 12 inches on center; and (7) Internally
lighted signs using 425-milliamp or larger ballasts if the lamps
are spaced closer than six inches on center.
4) Signs should be constructed and installed so that angle irons,
guywires, braces and other structural elements are not visible.
This does NOT apply to structural elements that are an integral
part of the overall design. (FWCC, 22-1602(A))
5) No sign shall project above the roofline of the exposed building
face to which it is attached. (FWCC, 22-1601(B)(2))
6) A separate electrical permit is required for any sign requiring
electrical work. The electrical work must be approved by one of
the city electrical inspectors. Please contact Neil Doyle at
253-661-4181 or Mac McConnell at 253-661-4182 to schedule an
on -site inspection, prior to the installation of any such sign(s).

7) FINAL SIGN INSPECTION IS REQUIRED IN ORDER TO RECEIVE SIGN
REGISTRATION NUMBER. PLEASE CALL 253-661-4140 TO SCHEDULE THE
INSPECTION.
8) The existing pole sign is considered a legal nonconforming sign.
Refacing of one of the panels or cabinets of the existing pole
sign is permitted pursuant to Federal Way City Code (FWCC) Section
22-335.g.4. However, all legal nonconforming signs shall be
immediately removed or modified to conform with all FWCC signage
requirements by February 28, 2000 or when any one or more of the
thresholds listed under FWCC Section 22-335 have been exceeded,
whichever comes first.
