Wilson,, Chief of Staff SeaTac Noise update Citizen complaints regarding: Increased noise from take -offs and landings out of SeaTac Changes in flight patterns and elevation through different neighborhoods Increased number of flights (take -offs and landings) Significant change observed over the last 6 months SeaTac Noise update Main runway construction to be completed in October 2015 Annually, 70% of air traffic to the south, 30% to the north (most north traffic during the summer months) 16% increase in SeaTac airport traffic Within last 8 months, FAA authorized satellite navigation (Green Skies Initiative for take -offs and landings as a safety and fuel saving measure at SeaTac) SeaTac Noise update Increased flights to and from SeaTac (13.4% July 2015) Increased weight of aircraft (planes are at capacity) Significant increase in the use of jets as opposed to other types of aircraft (jet traffic has doubled) Newer generation aircraft (full power vs. optimal) Flight elevations for take -offs over Federal Way (between 4,000-7,000 feet, 3,000 for safety/emergency); arrivals, 7,000-9,000 feet SeaTac Noise update Next steps: Open communication with citizens to understand their concerns Ongoing dialog with SeaTac Airport and FAA officials regarding concerns of Federal Way citizens Exploration of options regarding flight elevations and patterns SeaTac Noise Next Steps (cont.)
