Stormwater Low Impact Development (LID) Outreach
Project at Town Square Park
PROJECT SUMMARY: Installation of Low Impact Development (LID) facilities at Town
Square Park to provide an interpretive education and outreach center highlighting LID
stormwater improvements compared to traditional development. The educational center will
provide an opportunity for schools, summer programs, special interest groups, and the general
public to interact with the changing face of stormwater management.
LID ELEMENTS TO BE EVALUATED/INCLUDED:
• Permeable pavers for the perimeter trail, bathroom area and stage area
• Depressed landscaping in the parking lot roundabout planter
• Green roof for the restroom and covered bench/picnic area
• Educational and interactive signage highlighting traditional features compared to LID.
• Comprehensive map of the whole facility and how it functions
• Rain garden with native plantings

Unique Features of Town Square Park Location
• The project will be at the head water of Hylebos Creek.
• Site topography and proposed park design allow multiple types of
LID installations:
• Permeable pavers, vegetated (green) roofs, a raingarden,
depressed landscaping, and room for educational signage as
well as interactive stormwater education elements for
recreational park users.
• The proposed LID elements would integrate into what is already
scheduled for new construction rather than tearing up a site and
retrofitting existing stormwater systems.

Unique Features of Town Square Park Location continued...
• Without the need for a retrofit, the project cost would be
reduced; there would be fewer limitations on installation, and
no disruption to existing users.
• The park will be extremely visible and a great educational
opportunity for the general public. With interesting signage
and interactive elements SWM would be able to expand their
outreach program beyond organized efforts.
• Perimeter trails and open space hardscapes are ideal locations
for permeable pavers even in soil conditions that do not have
high infiltration rates as the storage of run-off within the trail
subsurface slows the flow and provides filtering for additional
water quality treatment.
