Policy Question
Should the City Council authorize the
expenditure of $225,000 and the construction of
safety improvements along Pacific Highway
South, between S 373rd Street and the turn
pocket of South 359thStreet?
Background Information
• Pacific Highway, south of 356t", has seen some of
the most significant vehicular collisions City
wide.
• In 2021, after review of 373rd and 374t" a
decision was made to prohibit left turns and
install lane delineators.
Background Information
• The work at 373rd/374t" was completed and has
shown a successful reduction in collisions.
• As part of the final review, Public Works was
asked to review the expansion of that project to
include all of Pacific Highway to 359t", determine
associated costs to create a safety corridor.
Background Information
• After review, the scope of work would include:
— Install lane dividers continuing northbound to the
southern end of the turn pocket at S 359tn
— Install required signage in both the northbound and
southbound directions.
— Install 2 additional tactile feedback speed reader
signs.
• To reduce costs, the spacing of the lane dividers
will be modified throughout the corridor.

— Delineators have a lead time of 45 to 60 days from
receipt of a Purchase Order
— Public Works will need a permit from WS DOT
• Anticipated work could start mid March

the construction of safety improvements
along Pacific Highway South between S 373rd
Street and the turn pocket of S 359thStreet.
2. Do not authorize and provide direction to
staff.
