YC Minutes 01-13-2022 CITY OF FEDERAL WAY YOUTH COMMISSION th Thursday, January 13, 2021 Zoom- Virtual Meeting 5:00 p.m. Federal Way Community Center MEETING MINUTES Clemons called the meeting to order at 5:09 PM Present: Andrew Deo, Ankit Gowda, Niko Manjares Absent: Mary Alison Wood (unexcused) Staff: David Clemons (Customer Service Coordinator), Ashriya Guptar (Administrative Assistant) PUBLIC COMMENT No Public Comments. COMMISSION BUSINESS Recruiting Updates Commissioners give an update on their progress with recruiting new commissioners. Clemons briefly discusses the application process for new commissioners Minutes Discussion Clemons discusses how minutes work and how the approval/amendment process works. Chair/Vice-Chair Appointment Commissioners Ankit and Andy express their interest in the Chair/Vice-Chair position. Commissioners Ankit and Andy decide to assume the roles of Vice-Chair and Chair positions, respectively. City Public Participation Plan Clemons asks the commission if anyone is interested in representing the Youth Commission for city meetings. Chair Andy volunteers. 2021-2022 Workplan Discussion: Recruiting New Commissioners: top priority FirStep Scholarship Clemons gives a brief overview of the FirStep Scholarship. The commission is tasked with promoting the scholarship and informing fellow peers of the scholarship. Commissioners need to work on developing the scholarship and work out details as to who’s eligible for it, how much of it the recipient will receive, promotion and etc. Chair Andy brings up the idea to model this scholarship after the FWCC swimmership application. Clemons gives the idea of taking a look at the FWCC’s fee reduction, inclusion and swimmership applications for inspiration. Game Room Clemons discusses the Youth Commission’s role with the Game Room at the Federal Way Community Center. potential for the commissioners to work on “remodeling” the area. Bryan brings up the idea of renting out video th Youth Commission, October 14, 2021 Page 2 games/consoles. Chair Andy points out that there isn’t much space in the game room area for a monitor, TV and/or game console. Vice-Chair Ankit agrees and adds that it may be hard to keep track of controllers. Commissioner Niko brings up the idea of having the FWCC front desk keep track of who checks out the controllers. Chair Andy mentions that he has an old xbox console that he could donate. Chair Andy motions to table the discussion, Vice-Chair Ankit seconds the motion.
