METRO TRANSIT INFORMATIONAL MEETING
Mayor Ertel opened the Federal Way City Council Special/Study
Session on July 29,1991, at 7:03 p.m., in Council Chambers, City
Hall.
Present: Mayor Debra Ertel, Deputy Mayor Mary Gates and
Councilmembers Jim Handmacher, Joel Marks, Bob Stead, Jim Webster.
Absent: Councilmember Lynn Templeton.
Public Works Director Philip Keightley introduced Metro Senior
Transit Planner Jack Lattemann and Metro Capital Projects
Coordinator Chris Deffebach.
Jack Lattemann reviewed hand-out material distributed to those in
attendance, and opened a question and answer period at 7:50 p.m..
The following subjects were discussed:
system end location
pierce County participation
availability of Federal funds for transit
sales tax to raise funds
park/ride lots
NE Tacoma area
dial-a-ride routes (DART)
lack of confidence in METRO
long term policy
light rail importance
north/south & east/west grids
additional bus shelters
gas cost vs. ridership
additional bus routes
light rail system
"super" train system
politics involved
left-turn lane problems for buses
additional express service
Seahawk special buses
Federal Way representative to METRO

Mr. Lattemann reported dial-a-ride (DART) should be instituted by
November lst in the Federal Way area--he explained they have had
bid problems, so the service has been delayed. He explained METRO
would very much like to hold future forums within the city for
citizen input.
Mayor Ertel adjourned the Feder I
