Deputy Mayor Mary Gates opened the Federal Way City Council study
session at the hour of 7:05 p.m., on September 24, 1991, in Council
Chambers, City Hall, Federal Way, Washington.
Council Present: Deputy Mayor Gates and Councilmembers Jim
Handmacher, Lynn Templeton, Joel Marks, Bob Stead and Jim Webster.
Excused absence: Mayor Debra Ertel.
Planning commissioners Present: Rick Feutz, Duane Denny, Jeff
Paradee, Dick Burris and Bob Griebnow. Absent: Phil Watkins,
Diana Noble-Gulliford and Mark Freitas.
Long Range Planning Manager Larry Springer introduced Tom Murdock
from Everett ("Adopt A Stream" progrB.J1), who presented slides and
video on wetlands preservation and answered questions from the
Council and audience.
Deputy Mayor Gates announced a ten-minute recess at 8:05 p.m., and
reconvened the study session at 8:15 p.m..
Parks Director Joe Stevens introduced Consul tant Arai Jackson whose
staff presented slides of the Evergreen Airstrip property and other
municipal parks in the Northwest to give the Council an overview of
possibili ties for future development of the area. They also
presented seven schematics showing suggested park proposals. The
presentation was followed by a question and answer period.
Councilmembers requested all schematics be reduced to 8-1/2" x 11"
size for further review. Parks Department Staff will make those
available to Council as soon as possible.
Councilmember Handmacher reported a wetlands
completed prior to any development of the area.

The Council referred the Evergreen Airfield consul tant study to
individual committees and commissions for review.
Deputy Mayor Gates adjourned the study session at 9:15 p.m..
