ADJOURNMENT NEXT REGULAR MEETING: June 2, 2022 i:\parks comm mtg notes\2022\04-07-2022 minutes.doc CITY OF FEDERAL WAY PARKS AND RECREATION PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION April 7, 2022 Hylebos Meeting Room 5:00 p.m. MEETING MINUTES Present: Chair Michael Campsmith, Vice Chair George Vadino and Commissioner, Thomas George Excused: Commissioner’s Dave Berger and George Pfeiffer Staff: Jason Gerwen, Parks Deputy Director and Mary Jaenicke, Parks Adm. Asst. II. Excused: John Hutton, Parks Director Chair Campsmith called the meeting to order at 5:02pm. PUBLIC FORUM None APPROVAL OF MINUTES Commissioner George moved to approve the March 3 Parks and Recreation Commission regular meeting minutes as written. Vice Chair Vadino seconded. Motion passed. COMMISSION BUSINESS Project Prioritization Matrix The projects with the highest priority were placed on the matrix. Some of the projects were not on there because there is a lack of funding for those projects. Staff Gerwen distributed the project prioritization matrix and requested that the commission score the projects on the matrix and return it to him no later than April 28th. Staff Gerwen reminded the commission to be consistent with their scoring. Parks Appreciation Day Staff Gerwen reported that Parks Appreciation Day is scheduled for April 23 from 9:00am-12:00pm. There have not been very many pre-registrations for the event. Parking will be limited and people will be directed to park at the Park n’ Ride. Sponsors included Frito’s, Trader Joe’s, Costco and Sub Zero Ice Cream. They will be working at two sites: West Hylebos Wetlands Park and the Blueberry Farm. Projects at West Hylebos will include pruning the orchards, spreading quarry sand and pruning back the trail. Projects at the Blueberry Farm will include pulling weeds, filling potholes, spreading bark, fertilizing the blueberry’s and general cleanup of the site. We Love Our City has purchased a 1948 tractor for the site. They will create a gravel pad for the tractor. Park Maintenance staff has been busy preparing the tractor for the site.
