Federal Way City Council
Study Session
January 28, 1992 - 6:00 p.m.

CALL MEETING TO ORDER
Mayor Stead called the study session to order at the hour of 6:00 p.m., on the 28th day of
January, 1992, in Council Chambers, Federal Way City Hall, 33530 First Way South, Federal
Way, Washington. Councilmembers present: Ray Tomlinson, Mary Gates, Deputy Mayor Joel
Marks, Ron Gintz, Lynn Templeton, and Skip Priest. Staff present: J. Brent McFall, City
Manager; Carolyn Lake, Acting City Attorney, and Maureen Swaney, City Clerk.

AIRPORT NOISE PRESENTATION
Representatives from the City of Des Moines (Mayor, City Manager and Legal Counsel)
explained their goals and strategy for opposing expansion of SeaTac airport.

JOINT MEETING WITH PLANNING COMMISSION
Larry Springer, Community Development Department, explained the Growth Management Act,
the 1992 Planning Commission Work Plan and the status of the Growth Management Planning
Council.
IV.
UNSCHEDULED
A request was made by a member of the Planning Commission to fund certain travel and
training for the Planning Commission; said request included a report back to the Council from
Messrs. McFall and Springer in two weeks.
The Planning Commission also urged that the commission be involved in the initial stages of the
City Center planning efforts. Discussion continued on involvement of both the Commission
members and the citizens.
