CALL MEETING TO ORDER Mayor Gates opened the special session of the Federal Way City Council at 6:04 p.m., in Council Chambers, City Hall, Federal Way, Washington. City Council present: Mayor Mary Gates, Deputy Mayor Phil Watkins, Councilmembers Jack Dovey, Hope Elder, Ron Gintz, Skip Priest. City Staff present: City Manager Ken Nyberg, City Attorney Londi Lindell, Recording Clerk Cathy Rafanelli. II. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Councilmember Elder led the flag salute. III. RECESS INTO EXECUTIVE SESSION At 6:05 p.m., Mayor Gates announced the Council would recess into a 15-minute executive session to evaluate candidate qualifications pursuant to RCW 42.30.110(h), including prior City Councilmember applications considered by the City Council on or after January I, 1995. At 6:20 p.m., City Manager Nyberg announced a continuation of the executive session for an additional fifteen minutes; at 6:35 p.m., Assistant City Manager Keightley announced another fifteen minute extension. IV. RECONVENE SPECIAL SESSION At 6:50 p.m., Mayor Gates adjourned the executive session and reconvened the special session. Motion by Deputy Mayor Watkins to suspend Section 22 (Filling City Council Vacancies) of the City of Federal Way Rules of Procedures; second by Councilmember Dovey. Motion to suspend rules passed as follows: Gates Gintz Priest yes yes yes Watkins Dovey Elder yes yes yes ORIGINAL FEDERAL WAY CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL SESSION MINUTES May 30, 1995 - Page 2 Motion by Councilmember Elder to place the name of Michael Park into nomination for Federal Way City Council Position No.3, effective upon his being appointed and sworn in on June 6, 1995, during the Council Business portion of the regular meeting, with a term effective through December 31, 1995; second by Councilmember Priest. Following a roll call vote, the nomination was approved as follows: Gates Gintz Priest yes yes yes Watkins Dovey Elder yes yes yes v.
