MINUTES
I.
CALL MEETING TO ORDER
Mayor Gates opened the Special Meeting of the Federal Way City Council at 4:05 p.m., in Council
Chambers, City Hall, Federal Way, Washington.
City Council present: Mayor Mary Gates, Deputy Mayor Phil Watkins, Councilmembers Skip
Priest, Hope Elder, Mike Park and Ron Gintz. Jack Dovey's absence was excused.
City Staff present: City Clerk Chris Green. City Manager Ken Nyberg and City Attorney
Londi Lindell were excused by the City Council.
II.
DIVERSITY & PLANNING COMMISSION INTERVIEWS
The following persons appeared and were interviewed for the Diversity Commission: John
Felleisen, R. L. Lottier, Cynthia Chun, Lyle Whipple and Cynthia Hassen.
The following persons appeared and were interviewed for the Planning Commission: Todd
Suchan, Herb Pollinger, James Hicks, Joseph Lorenz and Tim Carr.
The following persons appeared and were interviewed for both commissions: Brian Johnson and
Juan Sanchez.
Mr. James Hicks appeared but was ineligible because of his failure to meet the residency
requirements as provided in the ordinance.
Ms. Luana Joslin was unable to attend and requested her application serve in lieu of her personal
appearance.
Ms. Jacqueline Washington, who applied for both commissions, failed to appear for her scheduled
interview.
III.
DELIBERA nONS
All Councilmembers present deliberated and recommended the following persons be appointed to
the Diversity Commission: John Felleisen and Cynthia Hassen with R. L. Lottier and Juan
Sanchez being recommended to serve as alternates.
