MINUTES
CALL MEETING TO ORDER
I.
Mayor Priest opened the special meeting of the Federal Way City Council at 5:30 p.m., in Council Chambers,
City Hall, Federal Way, Washington.
City Council present: Mayor Mahlon "Skip" Priest, Deputy Mayor Hope Elder; Counci1members Michael
Park, Mary Gates, Ron Gintz and Jack Dovey. Councilmember Phil Watkins arrived at 5:39 p.m.
City Staff present: City Manager Ken Nyberg, Deputy City Manager Philip Keightley, City Attorney Londi
Lindell, City Clerk Chris Green and Deputy City Clerk Bob Baker.
II.
STAFF PRESENTATIONS
Mr. Keightley presented a brief history of the Image and Downtown Committees action thus far. Using
overheads, he reviewed the committee recommendations including a summary of costs associated with each
portion of the project.
III.
IMAGE & DOWNTOWN COMMI'ITEE ISSUES
The primary focus of the discussion centered around the job description and hiring criteria for the proposed
city position of Economic Development Executive. The executive would be responsible to manage the
program in conjunction with a branch of the Chamber of Commerce.
It was agreed staff is to work on/prepare and take back to Council a very specific job description for this
position.
COUNCILMEMBER GINTZ MOVED ADOPTION OF IMAGE & DOWNTOWN REVITALIZATION
PROGRAM ELEMENTS AND COSTS; second by Councilmember Dovey. The motion carried as follows:

Having no other business to come before the Council for the special meeting, the meeting was adjourned at
