MINUTES
I.
CALL MEETING TO ORDER
Councilmember Jack Dovey opened the special meeting at 5:30 p.m., in Council Chambers, City Hall,
Federal Way, Washington.
Present were Deputy Mayor Michael Park; Councilmembers Mary Gates, Jeanne Burbidge and Linda
Kochmar.
Mayor Ron Gintz and Councilmember Phil Watkins were not present.
Current Parks & Recreation Commission Vice-Chair Barbara Reid also participated in the interview
process.
City Staff present: City Clerk Chris Green. Chair Dovey excused City Manager Ken Nyberg and City
Attorney Londi Lindell.
II.
PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION INTERVIEWS
Council conducted interviews with the following: Laird Chambers, Jim Baker, H. David Kaplan and
Larry Tibbels.
Steve Shively requested his application be submitted in lieu of his personal appearance.
III.
DELIBERATIONS
Following Council discussion, a consensus was reached to re-appoint Laird Chambers, Jim Baker and
H. David Kaplan. They also encouraged the Commission Chair to extend an invitation to Larry
Tibbels to attend and participate in commission activities, and to possibly apply for a future
commission opening. The committee's recommendations will be presented at this evening's regular
Council meeting to confirm the appointments.
IV.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business, the special meeting adjourned at 6:45 p.m.
