AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF FEDERAL WAY, WASHINGTON, AMENDING THE
FEDERAL WAY CITY CODE, CHAPTER 5, "BUILDINGS
AND BUILDING REGULATIONS", ARTICLE IX, "MOVING
BUILDINGS", SECTIONS 5-247 AND 5-253, RELATING
TO MOVING RESIDENTIAL BUILDINGS (AMENDS
ORDINANCE 90-34).
WHEREAS, the Federal Way City Council finds that this
ordinance is in the interest of the public health, safety and
welfare; NOW, THEREFORE,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FEDERAL WAY, WASHINGTON,
DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:

1.
The Federal Way City Code Section 5-247 is
hereby amended as follows:
Sec. 5-247.
Definitions.
The following words, terms and phrases, when
used in this article, shall have the meanings
ascribed to them in this section, except where
the context clearly indicates a different
meaning:
Building shall mean and include every
buildin~, house, structure or other like
object.
Housemover shall mean any person engaged
in the business of moving houses, buildings,
structures or other like objects.
SubstantiallY remodeled shall mean any
buildinq when the total cost of all
alterations or repairs (includinq without
limitation electrical. mechanical. plumbinq.
and structural chanqes) to such buildinq
completed durinq any twelve (12) month period
from the date of application to move a
buildinq exceeds sixty percent (60%) of the
assessed value of the buildinq for purposes of
qeneral taxation.

before they are moved. Residential buildinqs
shall be inspected for compliance with minimum
housinq standards as required by the Uniform
Housinq Code as adopted bv the city pursuant
to Article VI. "housinq standards" of this
code. Substantial Iv remodeled residential
buildinqs and non-residential buildinqs shall
be insDected for compliance with those
requ1ations set forth in this code that aDDlv

Section 3.
Ratification.
Any act consistent with the
authority and pr.ior to the effective date of this ordinance is
hereby ratified and affirmed.

4.
Severability.
The
provisions
of
this
ordinance are declared separate and severable.
The invalidity of
any clause, sentence, paragraph, subdivision, section, or portion
of this ordinance or the invalidity of the application thereof to
any person or circumstance, shall not affect the validity of the
remainder of the ordinance, or the validity of its application to
other persons or circumstances.

Effective Date.
This ordinance shall be
effective thirty (30) days after passage, as provided by law.
