AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
OF FEDERAL WAY, WASHINGTON, AMENDING
MEMBERSHIP PROVISIONS OF THE FEDERAL
DIVERSITY COMMISSION (AMENDS ORDINANCE NO.
141) .

WHEREAS, the city of Federal Way recognizes that cultural
diversity is important to a community's quality of life; and
WHEREAS, by previous Ordinance No.
92-141 in June of
1992, the city council of the City of Federal Way, Washington,
established a Diversity Commission to review issues and advise the
city council; and
WHEREAS, the Diversity Commission has requested Council
to consider expansion of Diversity commission membership from nine
to eleven members; NOW, THEREFORE,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FEDERAL WAY, WASHINGTON,
DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:

The Federal Way city Code,
section 2-89
Membership, is amended as follows:
Sec. 2-89.
Membership.
(a) The diversity commission shall
consist of fl4fleeleven members appointed by the
city council.
(b) The commission shall serve without
compensation.

(c) Each member shall serve a term of
three years; except that of the original
appointees to such commission. Three shall be
appointed for a term ending December 31, 1993,
three shall be appointed for a term ending
December 31, 1994, and three shall be
appointed for a term ending December 31,1995.
Vacancies shall be filled for any unexpired
term in the same manner as the original
appointment.
(d) For the two Commission members
appointed effective January l. 1994. one term
shall exDire December 31. 1995. and one term
shall expire December 31.1996.
(Eig) Persons appointed to serve on the
commission shall reside within the Federal Way
School District during the members' terms;
provided no fewer than &eYeftnine members shall
reside within the city limits.
(e~) To the extent practicable,
appointments shall reflect the diversity of
all of the city.

2.
Severability.
The
provisions
of
this
ordinance are declared separate and severable.
The invalidity of
any clause, sentence, paragraph, subdivision, section, or portion
of this ordinance or the invalidity of the application thereof to
any person or circumstance, shall not affect the validity of the
remainder of the ordinance, or the validity of its application to
other persons or circumstances.
section 3.
Ratification.
Any act consistent with the
authority and prior to the effective date of this ordinance is
hereby ratified and affirmed.

section 4.
Effective Date.
This ordinance shall be
effective five
(5)
days after passage and publication of an
approved summary consisting of the title hereto.
