AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF FEDERAL WAY, WASHINGTON, AMENDING THE
CITY'S TRAFFIC CODE, ARTICLE VI, SECTION 15-
192, RELATING TO BICYCLES, BY ALLOWING
BICYCLES ON SIDEWALKS IN BUSINESS DISTRICTS
WHERE SUCH SIDEWALKS HAVE BEEN DESIGNATED AS
CLASS III BIKE ROUTES (AMENDS ORDINANCE 91-
91) .
WHEREAS, the Federal Way City Council finds that this
ordinance is in the interest of the public health,
safety and
welfare; NOW, THEREFORE,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FEDERAL WAY, WASHINGTON,
DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:

1.
The Federal Way city Code Section 15-192 is
hereby amended as follows:
Sec. 15-192.
Riding on sidewalks-In business district.
(a)
No person shall ride a bicycle upon a sidewalk in a
business district, unless the sidewalk is classified and
published as a Class III Bike Route.
(b)
The Public Works Director is authorized to and shall
desiqnate
and
publish
a
list
of
sidewalks,
as
appropriate. within any Business District. as Class III
Bike Routes.
(c)
A list of all sidewalks classified as Class III Bike
Routes shall be maintained on file with the Public Works
Decartment.

"Business District" for purposes of this section is
defined to be the SeaTac Mall and its immediate vicinity.
This area is particularly described as:

northwest
corner
of
the
right-of-way
at
the
intersection of South 316th street and Pacific Highway
South, thence east along the north margin of the right-
of-way of South 316th Street to the northeast corner of
the right-of-way at the intersection at 23rd Avenue South
and
South
316th
Street;
thence
southeast
along
the
northeast margin of the right-of-way of 23rd Avenue South
to
the northeast corner
of the
right-of-way
at
the
intersection at 23rd Avenue South and South 317th street;
thence east along the north margin of the right-of-way of
South 317th street to the northeast corner of the right-
of-way at the intersection of South 317th Street and
Gateway Center Boulevard; thence generally south along
the east margin of the right-of-way of Gateway Center
Boulevard to the southeast corner of the right-of-way at
the intersection of Gateway Center Boulevard and South
320th Street; thence west along the south margin of the
right-of-way of South 320th Street to the southeast
corner of the right-of-way of the intersection at South
320th Street and 23rd Avenue South, thence south along
the east margin of the right-of-way of 23rd Avenue South
to the right-of-way of the curving intersection at 23rd
Avenue South and South 324th Street; thence west along
the south margin of the right-of-way of South 324th
Street to the southwest corner of the right-of-way at the
intersection at South 324th street and Pacific Highway

South; thence north along the west margin of the right-
of-way of Pacific Highway South to the northwest corner
of
the right-of-way at the
intersection of
Pacific
Highway South and South 316th Street, the true point of
beginning.
(e)
IIClass III Bike Route" is defined to be a sidewalk
desiqnated by the Public Works Director and published as
such.
Section 2.
Ratification.
Any act consistent with the
authority and prior to the effèctive date of this ordinance is
hereby ratified and affirmed.
Section
3.
Severabili tv.
The
provisions
of
this
ordinance are declared separate and severable.
The invalidity of
any clause, sentence, paragraph, subdivision, section, or portion
of this ordinance or the invalidity of the application thereof to
any person or circumstance, shall not affect the validity of the
remainder of the ordinance, or the validity of its application to
other persons or circumstances.
section 4.
Effective Date.
This ordinance shall be
effective thirty (30) days after passage, as provided by law.
