AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
FEDERAL WAY, WASHINGTON, AMENDING FEDERAL WAY CITY
CODE ARTICLE III, SECTION 15-59, RELATING TO
SCHEDULE OF MAXIMUM SPEED LIMITS WITHIN THE CITY OF
FEDERAL WAY (AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 90-29 SECTION
4) .
WHEREAS, prior to recent road widening construction work,
South 356th Street within the City of Federal Way was posted
with the speed limit of 40 mph; and
WHEREAS, as a result of the road widening construction on
South 356th Street, the new widened street design requires a
reduction in the speed limit to be 35 mph; and
WHEREAS,
the
Washington
State
Department
of
Transportation, based upon heavy traffic flows and traffic
patterns, has lowered the posted speed on State Route 18
(South 348th Street within the city limits of the city of
Federal Way) to 35 mph and
WHEREAS,
the
Washington
State
Department
of
Transportation has requested the City to lower the posted
speed limit on South 348th Street to 35 mph to be consistent
with the State's speed limit change, now, therefore,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FEDERAL WAY, WASHINGTON,
DO HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:

Amendment.
The Federal Way city Code,
Article 3, Speed Limits, Section 15-59 Schedule is amended as
follows:
The maximum speed limits set forth in the following
schedule
of
speed
limi ts
are hereby established
as
the
reasonable and safe maximum speed limits to be effective at
all times upon the streets and highways designated in the
schedule.
The City Manager shall cause appropriate signs to
be erected on such streets and highways, giving notice of the
speed limits, as provided in this article.
(1)
Speed limit 30 mph.
No person shall operate a motor
vehicle upon the following described roads in excess of
30 miles per hour:

If any section, sentence, clause or phrase of
this
ordinance
should
be
held
to
be
invalid
or
unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, such
invalidi ty
or
unconstitutionality
shall
not
affect
the
validity or constitutionality of any other section, sentence,
clause or phrase of this ordinance.
section 6.
This ordinance shall be effective thirty (30)
days after passage as provided by law.
