This letter is in regards to the sign permit issued for your business in November of 1998.One of our
Building Inspectors, Neil Doyle, has asked me to address a few issues that have come up during his final
inspection. He has been working with Mark Viggins.
The sign permit issued replaced three building signs, added a new monument sign on the corner of 3126'
Street and Pacific Highway, and refaced a pole sign on the north end of the property along Pacific
Highway. Conditions of the permit were that landscaping be added around the monument sign and that
the pole sign on the north be removed by February 28, 2000. There are no issues with the building signs,
but the landscaping around the monument has not been installed and the pole sign has not been removed.
Now that the City of Federal Way has secured the funding for widening Pacific Highway, the question
was raised about whether the city would still require the landscaping be installed around the monument
sign. Since the construction is scheduled to occur starting in May 2001, the city will not require that you
put the landscaping in at this time. However, at the time the sign is relocated, the bank will be responsible
for installing the required landscaping.
The second request made was if the pole sign could be kept until the construction occurs. Pole signs are
no longer permitted for medium profile sites and a second sign at this location would not be permitted.
This sign needs to be removed immediately to meet the conditions of approval for your sign and to avoid
any code compliance penalties.
One thing you may want to know at the time your corner sign is relocated, is that the code was amended
in December of 1999 to allow two freestanding signs for corner lots as long as they are at least 200 feet
apart.
