Dick’s Drive-In Restaurant (Federal Way)

This memorandum documents the local trip generation study completed for the proposed DickÊs Drive-In
restaurant project located on Pad H of The Commons at Federal Way shopping center. Pad H is located
on the east side of Pacific Hwy South and south of S 320th Street. The proposed DickÊs Drive-In restaurant
would include the development of an approximately 4,000 square foot (SF) fast food restaurant with no
indoor seating.
Background
As we understand, the City of Federal Way considers a DickÊs Drive-In restaurant to be unique use. As a
result, the City has requested that a PM peak hour trip generation rate be derived based on a local trip
generation study.

Local Trip Generation Study
The weekday PM peak hour trip generation rate for the proposed DickÊs Drive-In restaurant was derived
based on traffic counts collected at two existing DickÊs Drive-In restaurants located in Kent and Edmonds.
· DickÊs Drive-In Kent: 24220 Pacific Highway South
· DickÊs Drive-In Edmonds: 21910 Highway 99
Traffic counts were collected by Idax Data Solutions at the two existing restaurants on three weekdays
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (March and April 2022) during the PM peak period (4:00 to 6:00
p.m.). A summary of the trip generation data collected at the two sites used to determine the trip generation
rate is included in Attachment A. The resulting trip generation rate from the trip generation study is shown in
Table 1 below.

As shown in Table 1, the weighted average trip generation from the two sites is 46.62 trips per 1,000 SF
during the weekday PM peak hour. It should be noted that the reported trip rate represents the projectÊs
gross project trip generation and does not include trip reductions associated with pass-by or internal trips.
