(Jl-'Ji COpy A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FEDER~L WAY, WASHINGTON, RELATING TO PARKS AND PUBLIC FACILITIES, CREATING A POLICY AND PROCEDURE FOR NAJlING/RENAHING CITY P¡;RKS AND ""CITITI";o;. ---- WHEREAS, the City Council may have occasions to name or rename City parks and other City facilities; and \Ĺ’EREAS, it is appropriate to esè:ablish criteria 2nd procedures for the official naming/renaming of city parks and other facilities; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY 02" FEDERI'.L h'l\Y, 1'IÞ.SHINGTON, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: section 1. A. The naming/renaming of City Parks and other City facilities shall only be in accordance with the procedures and criteria set forth below. Once adopted, name changes should only occur on an exceptional basis. B. The following criteria shall be considered: 1. Neighborhood or geographical identification; 2. Natural or geological features; 3. Historical or cultural significance; 4. The individual or entity who has donated substantial monies or land or has been otherwise instrumental in the acquisition of the property. 5. The articulated preference of residents of the neighborhood surrounding the public facility. 6. C. The Facilities for living shall be not named persons; however, exceptions may be considered when a significant contribution of land or money is made and the donor stipulates naming the facility as a cGndi~icn of tho Conation or when an unusually outstanding public service would so justify. follo"wing procedures shall be follo"""ed for naming/renaming of City parks and other City facilities: 1. The City shall solicit suggestions for names from organizations .Xlll individuals. and suggestions, solicited whether or independently offered, shall be acknowledged and recorded by the City. 2. The City following and review Council, recommendations and public meetings by the city designee, shall Council its and/or determine the name for City parks and other City facilities. 3. There shall be a lapse of at least twelve (12) months between the date of the death of the person(s) or of the event commemorated and the issuance of the final Committee recommendation of the proposed park name. -2- RESOLVED by the city Council of the city of Federal Way, this ~ day of April , 1991.
