A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF FEDERAL WAY, WASHINGTON, SUPPORTING THE
KING COUNTY NOVEMBER 5, 1991, GENERAL ELECTION
BALLOT MEASURE AUTHORIZING A COUNTYWIDE
PROPERTY TAX LEVY OF $.025 PER THOUSAND OF
ASSESSED VALUE TO SUPPORT EMERGENCY MEDICAL
SERVICES.
WHEREAS, RCW 84.52.069 allows counties and certain other
taxing
districts,
subject
to
voter
approval,
to
impose
an
additional regular property tax of up to $.50 per thousand dollars
of assessed valuation in each year for six consecutive years for
the purpose of funding emergency medical services; and
WHEREAS, King County is seeking voter authorization of an
emergency medical services levy of up to $0.25 for the period of
1992 through 1997; and
WHEREAS,
the
emergency
medical
services
(EMS)
levy
revenues
are
generally
used
to
help
support
Fire
Department
personnel who respond first to all medical emergencies, and for
essential medical supplies and equipment, and the EMS division also
operates four paramedic units providing services in South King
County; and
WHEREAS, King County emergency medical services provides
a regional advance life support (Paramedic) system including the
City of Federal way and King county Fire District #39; and
WHEREAS,
Fire District #39 also directly receives an
excess of
$400,000 a year to be used for basic
life support
(Emergency Medical Technician) needs; and

WHEREAS,
authorization of the
1992-1997
EMS
levy
is
needed to maintain essential emergency medical services to cities
of King County and citizens of Federal Way and assure continued
provision
of
the
very
best
in
emergency
medical
care;
NOW,
THEREFORE,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FEDERAL WAY, WASHINGTON,
DOES HEREBY RESOLVE:
The City Council of the City of Federal Way, Washington,
supports the King County November 5, 1991, general election ballot
measure authorizing a countywide property tax levy of $.025 per
thousand of assessed value to support emergency medical services.
