A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF FEDERAL WAY, WASHINGTON, APPROVING A MAP AS
THE OFFICIAL RECORD OF THE LOCATION AND
BOUNDARIES OF SCHOOLS AND SCHOOL BUS STOPS, AS
WELL AS AREAS WITHIN 1,000 FEET OF SCHOOL BUS
STOPS AND IMPLEMENT ENHANCED PENALTIES FOR
UNLAWFUL DRUG ACTIVITIES IN THOSE AREAS, AND
AUTHORIZING ANNUAL UPDATES FOR THE MAP TO BE
FILED WITH THE CITY CLERK AS THE OFFICIAL
RECORD OF THE CITY.
WHEREAS, the Federal Way City Council acknowledges that
the Washington State Legislature has authorized increased penalties
for manufacturing,
selling,
delivering or possessing with the
intent to manufacture, deliver or sell controlled substances in a
school or on a school bus or within 1,000 feet of school bus stops
or the perimeter of school grounds under RCW 69.50.435; and
WHEREAS,
in order to implement under such increased
penalties,
it is necessary for the city to adopt a resolution
approving a map as the official record of the
location and
boundaries of schools and school bus route stops, as well as the
areas within 1,000 feet of the perimeter of all schools and school
bus stop routes in the city; NOW, THEREFORE,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FEDERAL WAY, WASHINGTON,
DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
section 1.
Attached Exhibit A is hereby approved as
the official map of the location and boundaries of schools and
school bus stops as defined in RCW 69.50.435, as well as the areas

within 1,000 feet of such school bus stops and the perimeter of
school grounds.
section 2.
A copy of this resolution and the map
attached as Exhibit A shall be filed with the city Clerk and
maintained as an official record of the City of Federal Way as
required by RCW 69.50.535(e).
Section 3.
Upon request of the Federal Way School
District, the City Clerk is authorized to file maintain annual
updates to this map, as the official record of the City of Federal
Way.
section 4.
A copy of this resolution and map attached
as Exhibit A and any future annual updated maps shall be forwarded
to the King County Council, who is encouraged to take all steps
necessary to direct that all violations
of RCW 69.50.435 be
prosecuted to the fullest extent by the King County Prosecutor's
Office.
